Biometeorology Lab

Open Positions

The Biometeorology research group at the University of Tartu is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in Geography, Landscape Ecology and Environmental Protection. This is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated candidates with a strong academic background to engage in cutting-edge research and contribute to advancements in environmental technology.

Project Description

The successful candidate will investigate the carbon and nitrogen balance in wetlands restored using different peatland restoration methods. The research will focus on understanding the ecosystem responses to wetland management and restoration under various land uses by analyzing newly collected experimental data. This work aims to enhance knowledge on carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas fluxes in restored peatlands, addressing existing uncertainties in emissions estimates and sustainable restoration strategies. By linking greenhouse gas flux data to peat composition and environmental parameters, the project will contribute to improving process-based models for peatland soil and ecosystem carbon and nitrogen dynamics.
